Evading zombies...
There are different zombie survival strategies depending on which movies you watch. But Run For Your Lives will be a different ballgame.
And by ballgame, I mean football! Really, it's just like flag football. You wear a belt with three flags on it and these flags represent your brains.
So remember your jukes and spin moves. Definitely work on your agility and footwork during training.
For very unruly zombies, you might have to bust out the stiff arm to keep them at bay.
But most of all, protect your flags! The whole key is to move through the course keeping your flags just out of reach. If you only have one flag remaining and it's on your right hip, you better be running down that right sideline!
I couldn't find any good flag football skill training sites to link to, so this page with a few practice drills will have to do for now. Eventually I'll be posting some sort of zombie survival guide on CoachLevi.com to give you better, more specific training.

About Those Obstacles...
What am I getting myself into here??
The official website does not publish a list of obstacles you'll find along the course. I like it - it adds to the mystique of the event.
Complete course descriptions would take away some of the fun. It would be like using cheat codes before even attempting a video game.
But I can't help but be curious. The races have been going on all summer, so there are photos and race reports out there already. I couldn't resist the temptation to peek!
Here are a few of the obstacles I spotted:
Fog-filled house
This looks like a circus tent filled with dense fog. I don't know if there are walls and obstacles inside, but I'm sure there will be zombies lurking in the shadows.
Maze
A short but deadly maze made of semi-solid walls - I'm thinking thick black plastic (although who knows, maybe some courses at certain times of the year will have a corn maze.) Undoubtedly, zombies will be lurking around the corners.
Electric fence
Referred to as an electric fence in the pictures, this looks like a chain-link fence, maybe 18" off the ground, that you must crawl underneath. The good part is, I don't think zombies like getting near electricity.
Mud slide
This looks like a downhill slope that's just slippery mud.
Mud pit
This looks like a mud pit you can run, slide, or swim through, depending on the exact course.
Water slide
An obstacle? Maybe, but I think it's just a way to get cooled off and cleaned up after finishing!
I wouldn't be surprised to see steep hills, cargo nets, walls you must scale, stuff to crawl through or under, etc. Surely some of that style stuff will be on the course.
If you know of anything I left out, please post it in the comments! (Just please don't spoil any crazy surprises.) ;)

Run For Your Lives!
Regular 5k's are outdated. Today, popular events require not only a fun course, but also lots of obstacles along the way to test your mettle. I believe the draw is getting the adventure without a lot of commitment - like going to boot camp for a day without having to join the army.
The events I'm talking about are Warrior Dash, Spartan Race, and Tough Mudder, among others. Eventually, even these crazy races won't be crazy enough. The Run For Your Lives 5k is already one step ahead...
This is an off-road 5k with no less than a dozen obstacles, so it has the bases covered. But here's the catch - while you're trying to trudge through the mud pit or scale a giant cargo net, an army of undead are hot on your tail!
That's right, zombies! The course is infested with zombies who want nothing more than to eat your brains!
Technically, they won't eat your brains. They just want to steal your flags (like a flag football game.) Your goal is to make it to the finish line with at least one of your flags left.
Who would sign up for something like this?
I would! Actually, I did.
Since this is far from the bike races I normally blog about, I'll be blogging about my adventures right here at my new zombie run training blog! Stay tuned...
